Many people believe meditation to be a practice of sitting still in an uncomfortable, cross-legged, seated position with no thoughts entering the mind for hours at a time.
And whilst this may be true for some that have dedicated their lives to sitting in caves, I’d like to invite a change in perspective of what meditation is by asking:
What do birds do? They sing.
What do fish do? They swim.
What do minds do? They think.
Accepting that minds think, and not making a problem out of this relieves the pressure and stress of the near impossible task of stopping our thoughts; and is the first step to understanding what meditation is.
Meditation is a form of mind acceptance, initially a wonderful way to destress and ultimately a beautiful avenue for spiritual growth and development.
